Dr. Chester Ho is a Professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and the inaugural Spinal Cord Injury Research Endowed Chair at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He is also the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Facility Medical Director for the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Medical Co-Lead for the AHS Neurosciences and Stroke Program Improvement and Integration Network (PIN). He co-chairs the Alberta Pressure Injury Prevention Committee and is on the board of directors for the Canadian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel. 

Dr. Ho is a renowned clinician-researcher with an interest in the rehabilitation and healthcare delivery of persons with spinal cord injury. He has a special clinical and research interest in the management of pressure injuries. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed papers in top rehabilitation journals and has received research funding from agencies including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Brain Canada and Craig H. Neilsen Foundation. Dr. Ho was awarded the 2021 “Champion of Change” by the Canadian Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Association.

Clinical Nurse Specialist – Skin, Wound, Ostomy Team (SWOT), Certified Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC)

Lina Martins is a Clinical Nurse Specialist, certified Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) at London Health Sciences Centre in Canada.  She graduated from Western University with a BSc/MSc in Nursing and completed her wound, ostomy and continence education through the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Institute (1999).

Lina was instrumental in establishing the Skin, Wound, Ostomy Team (SWOT) at LHSC along with the introduction of wound/ostomy outpatient clinics at both University and Victoria sites. Lina provides consultation on acute/chronic wounds and ostomy care, with a specialized focus on fistula management, complicated stoma presentations, pressure injury prevalence/prevention/treatment and diabetic foot ulcers/lower limb care. She advocates on behalf of patients across the continuum of care and provides leadership, mentorship, and education to staff/patients/students.  She has received a Clinical Preceptor Outstanding Educator Award (nominated by students) and the LHSC Exceptional Educator Award 2023. 

Lina has been the Editor-in-Chief for the NSWOC Advance for several years and has been instrumental in her role as Editor-in-Chief in recently growing this journal to a more scientific and academic-focused publication to reflect the high standards of wound, ostomy and continence specialty under the newly branded Canadian Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence. As well, Lina maintains her position as the Canadian Features Section Editor for the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing.

Lina has been awarded the designation of a Fellow of Nursing Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (FNSWOC), a professional distinction reflecting specialized knowledge, experience, commitment, and contributions to the field, positioning Lina as a leader who advocates for quality improvement within healthcare systems and mentors the next generation of professionals.

Lina has published on both wound/ostomy issues, inclusive of peristomal skin complications and a research validated/standardized peristomal skin tool. She was a panel participant in the development of RNAO Best Practice Guidelines for ostomy care, and the CorHealth Ontario Saving Lower Limbs – Introducing a new Ontario Lower Limb Preservation Strategy, NSWOCC Debridement BPR, Paediatric Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis BPR and Paediatric Ostomy BPR, and the Canadian MASD (moisture associated skin damage) Tool.
